As <a href=\"https:\/\/www.voguebusiness.com\/technology\/vogue-business-x-vueai-webinar-personalisation-driver-for-retention-with-gen-z\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Gen Z<\/a> and millennials, we can access the world\u2019s best fashion stores at our fingertips and it\u2019s difficult not to succumb, and hit add-to-cart \u2014 particularly on pay day! <strong>So what can those of us interested in making conscious wardrobe choices do?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get some answers, I took a deep-dive into thoughtful shopping habits. I read up, had conversations with friends and colleagues (it helps that I work in fashion-tech), and finally, addressed what being fashionable meant for <em>me<\/em>. And the consensus? <strong>If you&#8217;re on the path to building a conscious wardrobe, ask yourself these questions the next time you hit add-to-cart:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"does-the-brand-resonate-with-my-values\"><\/span><strong>Does the brand resonate with my values?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Various factors including a brand\u2019s ethos, business practices, ambassadors, designers, the kind of shopping experience their app offers, and designs over a period of years, helped me narrow down to a brief list. Some interesting things that I spotted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>First &#8211; <strong>most of these brands had named their products. <\/strong>&nbsp;If the products were named, it meant that the brand had designed and launched each blouse or dress with a considerable amount of respect and care. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thereformation.com\/categories\/new?gclid=Cj0KCQjwlOmLBhCHARIsAGiJg7nPWM5zgWjxGENgtzIbclxudVymcD40GPVHe5PMoyBQ0G0OvY3lZRQaAkV9EALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reformation\u2019s<\/a> linen <em>Pineapple<\/em> dress and <a href=\"https:\/\/bymilaner.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Milaner\u2019s<\/a> woven <em>Julia<\/em> clutch are fine examples of this. This is also more prevalent in&nbsp; local brands. They curate a handful of products, and each product is fondly named after its source of inspiration!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Second &#8211; the list of brands that<strong> I aspire to shop from included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thredup.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thredUP<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vestua.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Vestua<\/a>, Ginger Threads, <a href=\"https:\/\/theluxurycloset.com\/?gclid=Cj0KCQjwlOmLBhCHARIsAGiJg7l0Wnq2QLAAax-j8-JN4dEL7Ai4eizar2o8Z0EjQLNC35tqTCmjb9gaAu90EALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Luxury Closet<\/a>, all resale brands<\/strong>. Shopping circular fashion is definitely the sure-fire way to a conscious wardrobe.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/wardrobe-02-2-1024x576.png\" alt=\"Conscious wardrobe in 4 easy ways\" class=\"wp-image-12386\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/wardrobe-02-2-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/wardrobe-02-2-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/wardrobe-02-2-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/wardrobe-02-2-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/wardrobe-02-2-2048x1152.png 2048w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/wardrobe-02-2-150x84.png 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"am-i-using-whats-already-in-my-wardrobe\"><\/span><strong>Am I using what&#8217;s already in my wardrobe?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>With a birthday that falls in January, I normally begin my year by spending a good amount of money on a bag I really love, and a great pair of shoes. This cycle would repeat itself the next year, on my next birthday. I prided myself on this habit of mine \u2014 until I realised that all the bags and shoes that I had bought over the years were not being used, in spite of being in perfectly good condition.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I made a mental note to stop this cycle, and mix it up every now and then. Switch it up, use my older bags and shoes every week or month, and so on. <strong>It\u2019s really about valuing the effort that\u2019s gone into the fine quality of these designs. Until last November, when I realised that I had spent close to $200 on outfits I didn\u2019t need! I had bought a dress worth $88 when I ended up wearing my 3-year old red and white striped pajamas on Christmas Eve. And a work tote worth $108 that\u2019s sitting pretty in my wardrobe now that I intend to work from home permanently. <strong>What\u2019s worse, this meant that my carbon footprint was significant.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once the initial shock of my expenses wore off, for the sake of the planet (and my pocket) I decided I wouldn\u2019t spend even a penny on things I didn\u2019t need, and have been pretty successful, so far, on that front.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/conscious-wardrobe-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-12388\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/conscious-wardrobe-1024x576.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/conscious-wardrobe-300x169.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/conscious-wardrobe-768x432.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/conscious-wardrobe-1536x864.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/conscious-wardrobe-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.vue.ai\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/conscious-wardrobe.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"does-this-mirror-my-personal-style\"><\/span><strong>Does this mirror my personal style?<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve been alive and kicking for 27+ years now. In all these years, I can safely state that I haven\u2019t once worn a ruffled dress, or neon culottes. So why do I <em>own<\/em> both styles, and why are they gathering dust in my wardrobe? <strong>Why have I invested time, money and energy on these styles that are so far from my personality?<\/strong> Perhaps I was trying to mimic the style of a chirpy influencer on social media. Or trying to experiment with \u201ccool trends\u201d that I will never be comfortable with.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I came to terms with the fact that I only like pastels and earthy tones. Maybe the occasional hot pink or cerulean blue. That sheath and empire were the only silhouettes I end up wearing. That totes and crossbodies will forever be my jam.
